If you’ve read any of my other skincare posts you’ll know my skin is something I’ve battled with for years. But with some careful diet and skincare choices I think I’ve almost got to the sweet spot – finally!
Firstly to skincare:
My skin type: Oily, sensitive and acne prone combination skin.
My skin is something I don’t mind investing in as it’s the only face I have and I need to look after it so it looks after me in later years.
Lately I’ve been using a collection of items in my everyday skincare routine which when all used together religiously seem to be working wonders for my skin and helping keep it glowy and bright.
And here they are –
I think you’ll spot a bit of a theme here with the brand I love – Liz Earle. The products are ram packed full of soothing and beneficial ingredients that my skin just loves. They don’t irritate my skin which has a tendancy to be quite sensitive and as far as luxury skincare goes, they are actually fairly affordable.
The Cleanse and Polish has been a staple for years in my skincare routine, I tend to only use this at night to remove my makeup ( I use a Forever Living face wash in the morning) and if I’m feeling like my skin needs it I’ll double cleanse with it too.
The Instant Boost Tonic – I’ve used this before but hadn’t got round to replacing it for a while so I was thrilled when I got this as part of my Christmas presents from my mum – I use it after I’ve patted my skin dry after cleansing and it helps soothe my skin even more after a long day of wearing makeup.
Gentle Face Exfoliator – This isn’t something I use on a daily basis of course but I try to use it 1-2 times a week so make sure the dead skin cells are removed which helps to prevent my pores getting clogged and causing spots. It’s also incredibly important for getting glowy, fresh looking skin as the dead skin is buffed away – makes sense really!
Vichy Aqualia Thermal Serum – Another great brand for sensitive skin, more on the pricey side but I managed to get this on sale from FeelUnique so will definitely keep an eye out for discount codes when I need to re-purchase. I’d seen this in a Melanie Murphy Youtube video with her sister and they were both saying it was amazing for sensitive skin. I know Melanie suffers with acne the same as I do so I knew I could safely use this on my skin and it wouldn’t break me out. Which was correct! I use it post-toner and pre-moisturiser so it helps lock in that extra layer of moisture for the long day/night ahead. Love it ❤
La Roche Posay Effaclar H Moisturiser – Yet another great brand for sensitive skin (sense another theme here?) Light enough to be a daytime moisturiser but thick enough that I can use it at night, especially on top of the serum. Works really well and at about £6 a tube I can’t really complain.
Forever Living Alluring Eyes – I use this morning and night post toner and serum, smear a small amount under my eyes and it keeps them hydrated all day/night long. You need such a small amount per application that this small tube lasts for AGES. Anything aloe based is a winner for me and this does the job SO well. As I’m approaching 30 (gulp) I thought I’d get a head start on keeping my under eyes supple and wrinkle-free, here’s hoping!
Feel free to leave a comment if you also love these products or have any recommendations 🙂
And now to diet:
Of course I can’t forget what I put into my body as well as apply to it. I am gradually trying to cut out refined sugar as much as physically possible ( it will never be 100% as I love chocolate too much) but one way I’ve found effective to get only ‘good’ sugars in is to eat my home-made energy balls.
I’ve written about them in my last post here and they’ve become my favourite snack 🙂 basically they are blended up dates, peanut butter, cocoa powder, oats and chia seeds and some coconut oil. The dates definitely are responsible for satisfying my sweets cravings – thus stopping me eating biscuits. There’s almost always biscuits in our office and when I’m hungry and don’t have any snacks with me they look incredibly tempting.
So having healthy sweet treats is certainly helping me reduce my processed sugar intake and in turn my skin is definitely thanking me for it! Of course drinking plenty of water and green tea cannot be overlooked, green tea makes my skin glow after drinking it daily for only a few days – wonderful stuff. ❤
So those are the things I’ve been doing since the New Year to help me get that glow I’ve wanted for so long. Thanks for reading if you made it this far!
